Art Show

Following an extended collaboration with the gallerist Yvon Lambert, Art Show is, for the first time, showing work at the Almine Rech gallery. The artist is presenting a collection of works from totally different “construction sites”, series that he step by step picks up over time as his work evolves. A guided tour.

Maloney has worked in various art techniques, studied drawing, printing, painting and design, as well as clay, stone and alabaster sculpturing and bronze casting. His polished objects convey elegance in form, influenced by form and texture. "I have tried working with various art techniques and have learned a lot about art from each," stated Maloney. "From sculpture I learned about the relationship of the work to its environment. From image making, prints, painting and drawing, I learned about design and color."

In Maloney's paintings, he has learned to extract that which he finds aesthetically pleasing, emphasize it and eliminate what he finds as unnecessary. "Hence, I would regard my work as minimalist," said Maloney. "In the case of prints and paintings, a colorist in the latter case I enjoy playing colors off against each other within the work. Right now I'm in my birch (tree) phase. I look at the shape of the tree and where the branches have fallen off. Then I pick up a feeling for what I'm looking at and start painting. There comes a time when you start with an object and through inspiration the painting takes over and that becomes an object in itself. European Art
