Commissions FAQs

“Creativity takes courage. ”
- Henri Matisse

What is the process?

The typical commission involves (1) a collaborative discussion around the concept for the commission; (2) an initial study for the work, sometimes in pencil, sometimes in paint, on a smaller scale than the final piece; (3) one round of revisions to the study; (4) the final artwork.

How long does it take?

This depends on the size and complexity of the work, as well as the artist’s current project queue. Typically, a work takes 1-2 months.

How much does it cost?

Commission pricing depends in part on the complexity of the work desired and the size of the work. For ballpark purposes, $5.00/sq inch is a good rule of thumb.

What size can I select?

Almost any size.
